Zendaya slayed the Style Game at the 2022 Emmy's and also made history as the youngest two time winner of the Outstanding Lead Actress award. She is also the first black woman to recieve two wins in the category and consecutively at that.
Zendaya being the top at the style game, was Dressed in a Valentino ballgown that featured a peplum bodice and a full skirt, the star paired the glamorous look with a voluminous hairstyle courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Tony Medina. Unsurprisingly the star stole the spotlight.
The best and most surprising part was, the dress Zendaya wore for the night was designed and made in just about a week.
Zendaya’s longtime stylist Law Roach shared with Vogue that Valentino had previously designed three dresses specifically for the occasion but none of them was the one. Instead, the design that Zendaya ended up wearing to the award ceremony came to Roach in a dream. Yes, you read it right, in a dream. “I woke up in the middle of the night and called Valentino, asking them to make this new dress,” Roach told Vogue. “It was the last dress we tried on, and I have to give a huge thanks to that team. Those women work so hard, and everything is done by hand.”
Roach also explained that the inspiration for the gown came from screen and runway icons Grace Kelly and Linda Evangelista. This is not the first time Zendaya and Law Roach are inspired by the legendary supermodel. Back in January, the star plucked an archive piece from Valentino’s 1992 collection to attend the premiere of Euphoria's second season. The piece, a vertically striped black and white dress, had been originally sported by Linda Evangelista on the runway of the maison’s Spring/Summer show.
Not only that, After receiving her award and offering a heartfelt speech, Z changed into another Valentino dress for the HBO after-party. The plunging red gown featured a long train and long sleeves and was described as a modern reinterpretation of the red evening gown created by costume designer Marilyn Vance for Julia Roberts on Pretty Woman.
The style icon is not only making history but also reviving it.
