In a recent photoshoot done by actor Ranveer Singh for Paper Magazine, the actor was seen posing naked for several of the photos and being appreciated for being ‘confident in his sexuality’ by the netizens. The public went crazy about his fervent appearance and supported him for being so body-positive. On the other hand, in a recently posted picture by Esha Gupta, the actress was slut-shamed and slammed for posing in a bikini.
The photos from both the stars received huge attention and reactions from the public but with greatly differing points of view. Various comments received by both the actors showcased the society’s ultimate double standards and its need to grow up in its mindset. The inherent gender discrimination and woman objectification that was apparent in the two posts makes us realize that modernity comes with acceptance.
When we talk about being body positive, gender neutral, and non-judgmental, we forget that the society comes from a point of inception that is greatly prejudicial and one that needs to make conscious efforts to rule out all its shackles. Where great actors such as Ranveer Singh, Esha Gupta, and others contribute towards delivering great roles and inciting the propagation of positive values, the society ought to take note of its double standards and strive to make change for the good.
