OTT giant Netflix last month released the fourth season of much popular series 'Stranger Things.' The web series was already loved by fans and it was indeed a success. Now, 'Stranger Things Season 4 has achieved the Nielsen Streaming Record with exceeding 7 Billion minutes of viewing time in the United States for the week of May 30-June 5.
According to Nielsen, this record is the highest weekly aggregate for any streaming series from the advent of weekly rankings almost two years ago. It also has the biggest two-week total for any web series: In the week of May 23-29, when season four of Stranger Things was released, it had 5.14 billion minutes of viewing, making a two-week total of 12.34 billion minutes.
The parameters of Nielsen are it counts all episodes of a series in tallying its streaming rankings, but reportedly the massive majority of the 7.2 billion minutes of viewing came from the seven episodes of season four streamed on May 27. Nielsen’s streaming report covers viewing on TV sets only and doesn’t enclose minutes watched on computers or other devices and only measures U.S. audiences. As of now, it checks the rating only of platforms like Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, and Prime Video. As per the earlier ranking, it is reported that more than 75 percent of the show’s 5.14 billion minutes in the week of May 23-29 is only from season four.
Apart from this, Stranger Things has also set another record of becoming the most-watched English language series on Netflix, according to the OTT platform's internal metrics. As per the sources of Netflix, subscribers have watched Stranger Things Season 4 for more than 930 million hours across the world in the first 28 days.
