Social Media can turn a normal, random conversation it something controversial and trending and an apt example of the same is the ongoing Sweden Gate across the digital platforms. It all started with a person asking on Reddit, "What is the weirdest thing you had to do at someone else's house because of their culture/religion?"

To which another user answered, "I remember going to my Swedish friend's house. And while we were playing in his room, his mom yelled that dinner was ready. And check this. He told me to WAIT in his room while they ate…" This did not go down well with netizens and they were quick to point out that it was offensive and unwelcoming for any guest. Some also highlighted there are many countries where guests are given special treatment and are never allowed to leave hungry.

Thus, this started a debate on social media platforms where people questioned Swedish hospitality and their culture. many found it rude and hence the entire argument trending with the hashtag 'Sweden Gate.'
There is also a faction of netizens who came in the support of Sweden justifying that Swedes don’t offer food to guests, especially children, in order to not mess up their everyday diet plans. A user wrote, "I grew up like this, and it was out of respect for the visiting child's parents who may have planned dinner which would then get wasted. Also, sitting down to dinner as a family was an important part of the day, so you shouldn't mess with another's family's mealtime."

Some netizens have also gone to the length where they have used European maps and highlighted which countries prefer to feed their guests while which do not prefer to offer food to their guests.
