Actors Like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Shahrukh Khan, and Ranveer Singh have created trouble for themselves by promoting Gutka and Pan Masala. Akshay Kumar engaged in a Pan Masala ad. After this he got slammed by his fans and then finally he released an apology statement.
Tamanna Hasshm a Muzaffarpur activist has filed a case against Shah Rukh, Big B, Ajay, and Ranveer under sections 467, 468, 439, and 120B. The charge sheet also includes, “misusing their popularity for promoting gutka only in greed of money.” This case has been accepted by the court and the hearing will begin on the 27th of May.
Amitabh Bachchan terminated his contract with the agency in the month of October. Big B’s office released a statement that “When Mr. Bachchan became associated with the brand, he wasn’t aware it falls under surrogate advertising. Now, he has terminated the contract with the brand, has written to them about his termination, and has returned the money received for the promotion.”
Akshay Kumar too released a statement saying that “I am sorry. I would like to apologize to you, all my fans and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi. With all humility, I step back. I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause. The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices. In return, I shall forever continue to ask for your love and wishes.”
Mahesh Babu was also trolled for promoting a tobacco brand. While taking a dig at his statement that “Bollywood cannot afford me”, a Twitter user wrote, “it’s funny how #MaheshBabu said that #Bollywood can’t afford him. But a pan masala brand can and having a Bollywood equivalent in Tiger shroff). Nothing wrong with it. But next time onwards, bring a better argument to act that Elite.”
