These Top 5 Korean Films To Get Honored At  75th Cannes Film Festival

Korean Films are now making their presence at the prestigious stages year by year. Korea has become one of the world's most active markets through the development of multiplexes and the popularity of the movie-going culture.

After successful films like Parasite and Minari which won Oscars, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild award-winning films, these top 5 films are on their way to the bloom Korean film industry at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, which began at the 17th of May.

1. Decision To Leave

Decision To Leave is directed by Park Chan-wook who won the grand prize in 2004 for Oldboy and the jury prize for 2009 Thirst. Now he makes his comeback to the film festival with the Korean- and Chinese-language film Decision To Leave which tells the story of a detective who suspects but is attracted to a mysterious woman while investigating her husband’s death. Seoul-based Moho Film was produced. CJ ENM is backing and distributing, with the film set for local release in June.

2. Hunt

Hunt is directed by Lee Jung-jae which will showcase powerful elites capturing and trying to hunt down a group of people. However, their plans for a fun event are thwarted when one of the captives proves too much for them to handle. . The film is produced by Artist Studio and Sanai Pictures with Megabox Plus M financing and distributing.

3. Next Sohee

Next Sohee is Written and directed by July Jung who made her feature debut in Un Certain Regard in 2014 with A Girl At My Door. This year she returns with another debut with Fil Next Sohee which tells the story of gutsy vocational school student who lands a prized internship at a major internet provider’s call center. But it turns out to be an over-­pressured nightmare that leads to the high-schoolers death. Bae stars as the detective who investigates. The film is produced by TwinPlus Partners and Crank-up Film.

4. Broker

Broker is directed and written by Hirokazu Kore-eda, his first Korean-­language film. In 2018 he won the Palme d’Or with Shop­lifters. Broker depicts the story of two men who have taken a child from a ‘baby box’ as well as a regretful mother and two police detectives. The film stars Song Kang-ho, Gang Dong-won, Lee Ji-eun, Doona Bae and Lee Joo-young. Produced by Seoul-based Zip Cinema and backed and distributed by leading Korean studio CJ ENM, the film is set for June release in Korea.

5. Persona

Persona is directed by Moon Soo-jin which is a short film that explores "a persona created in a bid to avoid criticism from a stranger. Persona is among the nine works selected from among the 3,507 films submitted from over 140 countries to compete in the festival's short film category.
