Soon after the IPL Indian cricket board will invite South African team for a bilateral tour starting with a T-20 series. The quick schedules may become more hectic for the players as there is England tour is coming just after this series which is followed by T20 World Cup as well.
Many senior players are likely to be rested for the South Africa series; this includes, skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul & Jasprit Bumrah. While Rishabh Pant is also likely to be rested, as the selectors want all the important players to remain fresh for the England series.
In such case Indian team management remains with couple of options to led the team. And recently more fingers are taking pointers at Hardik Pandya. On the other hand, selectors have Shikhar Dhawan as well to think about, as he has already captained India in absence of Virat, Rohit and Rahul during last year’s Sri Lanka series. But Hardik Pandya’s impressive captaincy for Gujarat Titans hasn’t gone unnoticed. So, it will be a close call.
The all-rounder came roaring back onto the field and surprised one and all by not only showing form with the bat but bowling at a brisk pace. As the tournament progressed, Hardik’s fitness became an issue and he missed a match because of his back problem. Even in the games in which he played after that break, he hardly bowled and looked unfit while fielding.
However, Hardik hasn’t been part of Indian cricket team for a long period now; due to his injury and bowling inabilities. Captains of the team have excluded him as a better choice over other batsman. Fans and viewers are not happy if team selectors are thinking of Pandya’s name for the captaincy.
