Many senior players are likely to be rested for the South Africa series; this includes, skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul & Jasprit Bumrah. While Rishabh Pant is also likely to be rested, as the selectors want all the important players to remain fresh for the England series.

In such case Indian team management remains with couple of options to led the team. And recently more fingers are taking pointers at Hardik Pandya. On the other hand, selectors have Shikhar Dhawan as well to think about, as he has already captained India in absence of Virat, Rohit and Rahul during last year's Sri Lanka series. But Hardik Pandya's impressive captaincy for Gujarat Titans hasn't gone unnoticed. So, it will be a close call.

The all-rounder came roaring back onto the field and surprised one and all by not only showing form with the bat but bowling at a brisk pace. As the tournament progressed, Hardik's fitness became an issue and he missed a match because of his back problem. Even in the games in which he played after that break, he hardly bowled and looked unfit while fielding.
