Producer Mike Dean is receiving backlash for questioning BTS‘s songwriting contributions and demeaning fan culture.
Mike Dean is an American hip-hop producer who has worked with many major artists, including Kanye West, Kid Cudi, 2Pac, Drake, and Madonna. He has won seven GRAMMYs and been nominated eighteen times. But recently he has been trolled for his comments about BTS. He also commented on misogyny and fangirl culture.
At Grammy 2022 Mike Dean has nominated for “Album of the Year.” ward went to Jon Batiste for We Are. BTS’s single “Butter” was nominated for “Best Duo/Group Performance,” which ultimately went to Doja Cat and Sza‘s “Kiss Me More.”
BTS accepted their loss gracefully and received praises for the same, but not so much with Dean.
When the GRAMMYs “dared” Twitter to name a smoother group than BTS, Mike Dean replied, “Anyone.”
The controversy just started from here and in another tweet, Mike Dean said he likes to “push army’s buttons,” for “fun.”
In another tweet he wrote, “U will all grow up and discover music one day,” implying that BTS’s music is not “real” music and that ARMYs are all young fans.
The producer also made comments that BTS plays a minimal role in writing their own songs.
These all comments made ARMYs angry and they started defending BTS.
Later today, Mike Dean apologized to BTS, and explained that he made a post he “shouldn’t have made” because he was angry about the 2022 GRAMMYs’ results for “Album of the Year.”
BigHit Music producer Docskim also tweeted back at Mike Dean to defend BTS’s talent and share their own thoughts. Docskim says he is “disappointed” in Mike Dean, who he looked up to as a senior in the industry.
Docskim began working with BTS as a keyboardist. He gave Jimin‘s solo “Lie,” a song from BTS’s 2016 WINGS album, launching his career as a producer.
Many ARMYs didn’t accept the apology and pointed out, that Mike Dean’s frustration with “Album of the Year” does not seem to have anything to do with BTS, who was nominated for an entirely different award.
Many criticized the producer’s lack of professionalism by comparing his reaction to losing a GRAMMY win to BTS’s.
Furthermore, ARMYs claim that Mike Dean has shown support for people criticizing BTS by “liking” their tweets.
BTS members are much more talented and that’s the reason why they are popular today globally. I think some artists can’t see BTS’s success and that is why they come and trolls them without reason. We love BTS and we will support BTS.
