HOLI 2022 : Here are some pre and post haircare and skincare tips for you!
Holi is the festival of colours which is celebrated not only in India but all across the world. It is also a festival of unity as it brings people together to celebrate a festival regardless of caste, ethnicity or religion.
People celebrate “Holika Dahan” on the first day by gathering around and burning piles of wood and cow dung, and singing bhajans related to Holi.
Then on the next day, people of all ages gather together to play with colours called “gulal” and coloured water called “Dulahandi”. People feast together and eat special sweets made for the day called “gujiya” and serve “thandaai” or cold drinks and “bhaang”
As we prepare to lovingly smear colour on our friends and family and dance to Bollywood songs, we must not forget about safety. Here are some tips and important pre & post skincare and haircare tips to follow, if you want to enjoy the festival safely.
PRE HOLI SKINCARE :-
- Ice Cubes For Face- Rubbing ice cubes on your face before going out to play Holi works wonders in closing the pores of your skin. Rub ice cubes on a clean face for about 10-15 mins and you can ensure that the harmful colors can’t penetrate your skin and cause Outbursts.
2. Use Sunscreen - Holi is generally played outdoors and the constant exposure to sun, colors and water, can take away the moisture from your skin and make you tanned. It is very difficult to restore the natural color of your skin once it gets tanned.
To avoid this problem, it is always advised that one should apply a generous amount of a good sunscreen lotion before stepping out to play.
3. Apply Coconut Oil - Apply coconut oil all over your body and massage. This would not only keep the skin well-hydrated but will also close the skin pores, reducing the colour absorption by the skin.
POST HOLI SKINCARE :-
- After playing Holi, use a cleansing milk to make the colors come off very easily.
- Once colors are removed, follow with a suitable moisturizer to banish dryness.
- Homemade packs help the skin regain its pH and luminosity balance. Apply a paste of ripe papaya, add lemon juice and a tablespoon of powdered milk and apply evenly on the face. Leave on for 20 minutes then rinse.
- You can apply a coconut yogurt pack to remove all color from the scalp. Ingredients: 2 tbsp yogurt, 2 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp olive oil (optional) and 2 tbsp Coconut oil .Just blend all of the elements in a bowl and apply them evenly. Leave for at least 25 minutes before rinsing off with cold water
PRE HOLI HAIRCARE:-
- Oiling your Hair - Ladies, going out to play Holi without having them oiled is just not an option. Holi colors can damage our hair to a great extent which is why it is essential to oil them before going out to play Holi. Be it coconut oil, olive oil or any of the oils you generally use, coating your hair with a layer of oils would reduce the effects of the colors' chemicals. Oiling your hair won't just do that but also won't let the color settle easily into your mane making it easier for you to wash them off later. Also, try not to leave your hair open and instead have them tied up in a bun or a braid to avoid maximum damage.
- Cover Up Your Hair - Having your head covered up with caps and scarves is yet another pre-Holi hair care tip to take note of. Look your stylish best while simultaneously protecting your luscious hair from the damage.
POST HOLI HAIRCARE :-
- First rinse/wash your hair with just water once you are done with the festivities. Once all the colour oozes out form your hair then do shampooing and conditioning.
2. Give an overnight treatment to your hair. Apply either oil or a hair mask overnight if you feel that your hair is dry. Next day, follow mild shampoo and conditioner routine.
3. If you have itching, then you can use neem oil to get relief from itching and restores scalp’s normal balance.
4. Aloe vera gel can also be used as a hair pack. Even, Marigold flowers help soothe scalp irritation. Sandalwood oil has excellent healing properties; use in right proportions for your hair care.
5. Make a homemade shampoo from Shikakai, Reetha and Amla; gently massage and rinse it off.
