But international model and actor Lin Laishram had a different opinion on it. Lin in one of her interviews commented on the casting of Priyanka Chopra as Mary Kom. Lin who loved Priyanka like many others in the film, had a slight difference of opinion and a point to make. She stated that since Mary Kom is someone who hails from the North East part of India, the character should have been played by someone who actually belongs to that ethnicity for a more accurate representation. Lin's take was further carried ahead by a journalist and the same was asked to Priyanka Chopra in an interview.

In response to this question, Priyanka completely agreed and commented that someone from the northeast’ should have played Mary Kom: ‘I look nothing like her', she said. This acknowledgement was recieved as a welcome gesture from Priyanka which was then openly appreciated by Lin Laishram who had the same point of view on it.

We got an opportunity to speak with Lin on it where she said, “It's really gracious and brave of Priyanka to finally accept this and put it out there. My admiration for her has only grown immensely. Inclusivity I feel is very hard to understand unless you are excluded. With the OTT gaining prominence, it seems that merit and authenticity are slowly getting the due importance that they deserve. I’m very thankful for this welcome change and looking forward to good work coming our way.”

Lin Laishram is an international model & actress who hails from Manipur who along with Mary Kom and Umrika, did a star turn in Vishal Bhardwaj directed Rangoon. She has impressed audiences with her performances including her remarkable portrayals in the movies Rangoon & last years critically acclaimed Axone. Lin will next be seen in multiple projects which are going on the floor and will begin shooting soon. She has always been vocal about inclusivity and diversity, now with stars like Priyanka Chopra acknowledging this, it looks like things are changing in the Indian cinema for good.
