Meena Kumari (who was only 18 then) had got married to Kamal Amrohi (34) on February 14, 1952, in a secret nikaah ceremony in the presence of Meena's sister, Mahliqa.

The depression had already taken over Meena Kumari, and a doctor had prescribed a small dose of brandy to her so that she could sleep better. But that medicine had become an addiction, and soon, Meena Kumari had started drinking heavily.
Sadly, one month after the release of her last film, Pakeezah, Meena was hospitalised at St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home and had died two days after being in a coma on March 31, 1972.
After 21 years of her demise, Kamal Amrohi had passed away on February 11, 1993, due to herpes and fluid in the lungs.
