There were two significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh Sana, Sanya Malhotra, Sakshi Tanwar starrer Dangal and, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Boman Irani starrer Don 2. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
This Day That Year Box Office : When Tiger Zinda Hai, Bhagam Bhag, Trimurti And Champion Were released
There comes a movie in a while which you are awaiting with bathed-breath and after watching it, your joy knows no bounds. Dangal was a perfect example that exceeds the expectations and would give you a right dose of entertainment with an inspiring message. Dangal was a biography-drama about the former Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat (played by Aamir Khan) who dreams of winning a gold medal for India at the Olympics. He earns enough respect in the field of wrestling but disowns the sport due to money-crunch. However, he trains his daughters, Geeta (played by Fatima Sana Shaikh) and Babita (played by Sanya Malhotra) who makes his dream come true. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, who earlier made Bhoothnath Returns, Dangal focuses more on the relationship between the Haryana wrestler Mahavir Phogat and Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat.
Aamir Khan plays the role of mentor to his daughter, Mahavir Singh Phogat. Aamir has chosen to put on lot of weight to look like an aging pehelwaan and his performance is impeccable. Dangal boast off some brilliant actors as well. Zaira Wasim (Young Geeta) and Suhani Bhatnagar (Young Babita) are simply superb. Same goes for Fatima Sana Shaikh (Elder Geeta) and Sanya Malhotra (Elder Babita) who are spell- binding. Sakshi Talwar does well in her part. The wrestling drama is the highest grossing film of Indian cinema ever made with Rs 388 crores and is “All Time Blockbisters” at the box office.
Don 2 (2011)
Don 2 was an out and out action flick which can be watched once only if you are a die-hard fan of Shah Rukh Khan. It is best enjoyed if you would not have much expectations. After a debacle called Ra.One , Sharukh Khan finally had made some effort to make sure his fans stays loyal to him. The sequel was much more stylish with well executed action sequences and amazing cinematography. Like Don, Don 2 falls flat in terms of direction and screenplay. The movie is entertaining in the first half but fizzles out in the 2nd half. Despite its shortcomings, the movie entertains from the beginning with stylish car chases , nice fight sequences especially in the climax and decent performances.
The action-thriller opened to a fabulous response and turned out to be a money spinner at the box office. At the end of the day, Don 2 was “Hit” at the box office and collected Rs 107 crores at the box office.
