Gaon Chart has announced a list of official certifications and BTS gains triple million certification on it. BLACKPINK goes double platinum.
On 11th November, Gaon Chart announced its latest batch of official certifications implemented in 2018 by the Korea Music Content Industry Association or album sales, song downloads, and online streaming.
BTS received triple million certification for “Love Yourself: Answer” as their album exceeded 3 million sales.
Gaon Chart certifies albums platinum once they reach 250,000 sales, while albums that have sold a million copies or more receive a “million” certification. Certifications are given when at least six weeks have passed since the album’s release.
NCT 127’s “Sticker” also received double million certification for exceeding 2 million album sales. ENHYPEN’s “BORDER: CARNIVAL” has been certified triple platinum for surpassing 750,000 sales, and BLACKPINK’s Lisa’s “LALISA”, Rosé’s “R,” ATEEZ’s “ZERO: FEVER Part 3” have been certified double platinum for surpassing 500,000 sales each. ITZY’s “Crazy in Love” and MONSTA X’s “FOLLOW: FIND YOU” went platinum for 250,000 sales each.
A song reaches platinum status for downloads once it exceeds 2.5 million downloads. K.Will’s “Beautiful Moment,” which is one of the soundtracks of the drama “Beauty Inside,” has now been certified platinum for achieving this feat.
Platinum certification for streaming is achieved when a song surpasses 100 million streams. BTS’s “Dynamite” received double-platinum certification for 200 million streams, while Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next,” KyoungSeo’s “Shiny Star,” and Shin Ye Young’s “Why Break Up?” received platinum certification for 100 million streams each.
