Britney Spears's father Jamie Spears discontinued as conservator, the judge notes toxic situation: Read to know more

A judge on Wednesday discontinued Britney Spears' father as her conservator, ending his part of controlling the singer's $60 million estate. "The current situation is not tenable. It reflects a toxic environment which requires the suspension of Jamie Spears, effective today," Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny told during a court hearing.

Spears will be substituted with an accountant, John Zabel, temporarily, Penny told. The hearing was continuing on Wednesday, and Penny had not agreed on whether to discontinue entirely the conservatorship that also controls the singer`s personal life. #FreeBritney fans who were huddled outside the court in Los Angeles exploded in cheers as the judge's ruling was conveyed. Pop singer Cher tweeted, "I`m more than thrilled 4 her. Bless our superstar."

Jamie Spears was been handling his daughter's business liaisons since 2008 when he put in place a wide-ranging, court-approved conservatorship after she endured a mental breakdown.

The singer has been urging for months that her father be discarded from any role in her life. She did not take part in Wednesday's hearing but was depicted by her attorney, Mathew Rosengart.

The "Circus" singer`s father made a surprise plea earlier in September for her conservatorship to end. His advisers on Wednesday asserted there was no need for him to step down because all viewpoints had decided the contentious arrangement should end. Rosengart said it would take time to wind down the conservatorship, and he said Jamie Spears wished to avoid having to answer questions about his actions.

A New York Times documentary published last week claimed that the singer`s phone and bedroom were bugged by security staff operating for her father. Conversations with friends, her children and her prior lawyer were monitored, a former security staffer said.

Jamie Spears told his actions were within his permission as a conservator. Spears intensified her actions in June to break free of the conservatorship, notifying the judge in her first public comments that she found it harsh and humiliating and did not trust her father.

Public support for her has grown, and some constraints Spears argued about have been loosened, containing being able to drive her own car.

Two weeks ago she declared her engagement to Sam Asghari her personal trainer boyfriend who was with her for more than four years. The couple hopes to marry soon after negotiating a pre-nuptial agreement.
