Hailing from a family of films, Ranbir Kapoor already had high expectations from Kapoor khandaan and especially from his parents – Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh. Though Ranbir always had an advantage of being a star kid but at the same time he had to deal with pressure of matching up to his parent’s acting caliber. Ranbir Kapoor started off his journey into the film world with a box office disaster Saawariyan (2007), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film was pitted against Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Om Shaanti Om. His second film Bachna Ee Hasino(2008) was yet another disappointment and was an average fair at the box office.

Ranbir Kapoor tasted the first success of his life with coming-of-age drama in Ayan Mukherjee’s Wake Up Sid (2009). Critics were floored over by his amazing performance. This was followed another hit – Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajeeb Prem Ki Gajab Kahaani (2009). Though Rocket Singh : Salesman Of The Year (2009) flopped during the same year, Ranbir’s performance was much appreciated.

2010 started off well with multi-starrer Rajneeti which became a grand success. Inspite of having stars like Ajay Devgan, Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor stunned both audience and critics with his fabulous performance. Later that year, Ranbir worked with Priyanka Chopra on average grossing flick Anjana Anjaani but Kapoor’s memorable performance came from Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar which was fairly successful at the box office. Ranbir Kapoor’s winning streak continued with super-successful Barfi in 2012 and mega-hit Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013.

Success was interrupted when Abhinav Kashyap’s Besharam was released at the box office same year which made Ranbir Kapoor into butt of jokes. His struggle continued with disastrous Roy and probably the most unsuccessful film of his life, Bombay Velvet. Ranbir bounced back with Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha in the same year. Though he was praised for his mind blowing performance, Tamasha was a moderate success at the box office. Ranbir Kapoor collaborated with Karan Johar for the first time with love triangle in Ae Dil Hain Mushkil (2016). Despite facing Ajay Devgan’s ShivaayAe Dil Hain Mushkil did very well at the box office.

Ranbir Kapoor saw another big letdown in terms of box office numbers with big budgeted Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos in 2017. The movie was a complete failure at the box office. However, Ranbir gave the best performance of his life with Rajkumar Hirani directed Sanju in 2018. Not only Sanju became the third highest grossing film in the history of Bollywood after Bahubali 2 and Dangal, it also earned Ranbir Kapoor a global recognition for his powerful performance.
