‘Shang-Chi’ has smashed the global box office with its debut and has become one of the biggest post-pandemic releases. The movie that is deemed as one of the best origins movies in the MCU thus far, is also the first to star an all-Asian cast. However, over the past decade, many Asian actors have come on-screen to play various roles and kicking butt alongside Marvel’s greatest heroes. Here’s a list of Asian actors who have assisted to save the world in the MCU.
Simu Liu is the newest instalment into the world of superheroes with ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’. The Canadian actor of Chinese heritage is among the new actors coming into Phase 4 of the MCU. According to the latest reports, fans may just get to see Liu again as he is set to star as one of the members of the new Avengers.
This November, Gemma Chan will be observed in action, portraying the role of Sersi in ‘Eternals’. Long before she could take on the character of the all-powerful immortal, Chan starred as a blue-skinned Kree, fighting alongside Brie Larson in ‘Captain Marvel’.
3.Park Seo Joon
Finally, fans get to see their South Korean actor Park Seo Joon in a superhero mode as he starts working on the ‘Captain Marvel’ sequel featuring Brie Larson. News that the actor earned his first Marvel role, came in the form of an IMDB update that verified he had joined the ensemble crew starring Brie Larson, Zawe Ashton, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani. With this, he is now only the third Korean actor to assemble in the MCU.
4. Ma Dong-Seok
Korean-American actor Ma Dong-Seok has confirmed to appear in an immortal race of superheroes in Chloe Zhao directorial – ‘Eternals’. The actor, known for his role Don Lee, in the South Korean zombie movie ‘Train to Busan’ was called in to play the character Gilgamesh, a powerful Eternal who is physically the strongest of the group. With this movie, Ma Dong-Seok marks his debut in a Hollywood feature movie.
5. Benedict Wong
Benedict Wong has been one of the most well-known characters in the MCU. Marvel buffs will know that his character Wong, has already starred in ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ and will also star in the approaching Tom Holland starrer ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. Wong has been one of the most popular actors of Asian descent in the Marvel cinematic universe.
6. Claudia Kim
Claudia Kim was the first-ever South Korean celebrity to feature in an MCU movie, and what better way to declare her arrival than in an ‘Avengers’ movie. The actress played one of the most important roles of Dr. Helen Cho, a genius geneticist who unwilling had to assist in creating a body for Ultron, in the 2015’s blockbuster ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
7. Tadanobu Asano
Tadanobu Satō, well-known by his stage name Tadanobu Asano, is a Japanese actor who has been working hard in MCU since 2011. The actor was one of the first few main Asian celebrities to gain an important role as the Asgardian warrior Hogun, a member of the elite army. He came back with his role in 2013’s ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and 2017’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’.
