Horror comedy Stree starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, ended its fabulous journey at the box office in its 8th week. Let us check out how much it collected in its lifetime at the ticket window
Directed by the debutant Amar Kaushik, Stree tells the story of a small town Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh which is gripped by fear of a witch, stree, who kidnaps the men to quench her thirst for love. Debutant director Amar Kaushik chooses a subject which is fresh and interesting. Written and scripted by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., Stree is the combination of horror, comedy and philosophy. There are few scenes which are thrilling and creates tension, thanks to the wonderful haunting background score. Though Stree is full of humor and entertainment, it successfully deals with social message of how women should be treated equally and what can be the future if men becomes unsafe in India.
Performances by everyone is one of the highlight of the film. Pankaj Tripathi is a treat to watch. Check out his mobile ring tone which matches with his spouse’s name “Shama”. Aparshakti Khurana does well and so does Abhishek Banerjee, who plays Dana. Shraddha Kapoor looked gorgeous and shines through out her role. At the end of the day, it is Rajkummar Rao’s show all the way. The supremely talented will make you believe in his portrayal of Vicky.
From the box office perspective, Stree had an amazing first week collection minting Rs 60.38 crores inspite of facing Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol starrer Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se. The horror comedy continued to do well in the second week owing to the glowing reviews, earning a sensational Rs 35.14 cores. The third week collection was outstanding inspite of new releases like Abhishek Bachchan, Tapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal starrer Manmarziyaan and Jacky Bhagnani and Kriti Kamra starrer Mitron and still managed to earn Rs 17.14 crores.
Stree continued the march in its fourth week bringing the overall collections to Rs 9.99 crores. Despite the release of Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma starrer Sui Dhaaga and Vishal Bhardwaj directed Pataakha, both of which occupied maximum screens, Stree managed to earn Rs 5.44 crores in 5th week while the 6th week collections ended on Rs 1.37 crores followed by Rs 15 lakh in 7th week and Rs 2 lakh in 8th week, bringing the total to Rs 129.83 crores.
