Day 6 of Tokyo Paralympics has been the historical and very special for Indian contingent as in the first few hours of the morning India has bagged 4 medals in different categories.
Avani Lekhara clinched gold and equalled the World Record in the Women’s R2 10m air rifle standing SH1. Yogesh Kathuniya bagged silver in the Men’s Discus Throw F56 event. Devendra Jhajharia won silver as Sundar Singh Gurjar bagged bronze in the Men’s Javelin Throw F46 Final.
Shooter Avani Lekhara Becomes First Indian Woman to Win Gold at Paralympics. Lekhara won gold with a world record-equaling performance in the R2 women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event at Tokyo Paralympics. "I can't describe this feeling; I'm feeling like I'm on top of the world. It's unexplainable," Lekhara was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. "I'm so happy I could be the one to contribute it. Hopefully there’s a lot of a medal more to come," she added.
Twenty-four-year-old Yogesh Kathuniya, who had won the Bronze Medal in World Para Athletics Championship, Dubai 2019, took India's medal tally to four in the mega event. Kathuniya was only bested by Brazil's world-record holder Batista dos Santos Claudiney who registered a throw of 45.59m to win the gold medal.
Devendra Jhajharia won the silver medal in the men's javelin throw - F46 final event on Monday at the Tokyo Paralympics with his best throw of 64.35, while Sundar Singh Gurjar won the bronze medal in the same event with his best throw of 64.01. The duo took India's total medal tally at the Paralympics 2020 Games to seven.
Javelin Throwers Sumit Antil and Sandeep Choudhary will also be in action in the Men’s F64. In shooting, Deepak Saini and Swaroop Unkalkar will take part in the Men’s R1 10 m air rifle standing SH1 qualification.
