Sidharth Malhotra And Karan Johar Join Hands Together For An Action Film After The Success Of Shershaah

Audience had high hopes from the film Badshah, released in 1999, as it was the second film of directer duo Abbas-Mastan with Shah Rukh Khan after the blockbuster Baazigar. Even the music was chart-bursting which was composed by Anu Malik and most of the songs were sung by Abhijeet. However, the reviews were not good and the word-of-mouth was negative from the paying audience which turned the movie an “decent” grosser at the box office with Rs 14.74 crore against a budget of Rs 10 crore.

Dhoom (2004)

Probably one of best action film ever made in India, Dhoom had everything going in its favor – superb action sequences, hot girls and sexy bikes. Performance by John Abraham in a negative role earned him brownies point while Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra kept the audience entertained. Music by Pritam was the highlight of the film who also gave the background score which gelled well with the mood of the film. Directed by Sanjay Gadhvi, Dhoom was released in 2004 and was loved by the audience which made it into “Superhit” status at the box office, collecting Rs 32 crore against a budget of Rs 11 crore.

Phir Milenge (2004)

Directed by Revathi, Phir Milenge clashed with Dhoom on 27th August, 2004. Phir Milenge, a remake of Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington starrer Philadelphia, was high on content and low on the commercial value. Result – it was a disaster at the box office even though critics praised the direction and performances by Abhishek Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty and Salman Khan. The social-drama collected Rs 2.49 crore against a budget of Rs 5.50 crore.
