Thrillers are tough to make, especially retro ones, but director Ranjit M Tiwari along with Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi has managed to put a gripping and thrilling tale.
Bell Bottom is inspired from real life hijacking events in India by Khalistani separatists during the 1980s, such as the Indian Airlines Flight 423, 405 and 421 hijackings.
Lara Dutta as Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at the time, wanting to put an end to whole hijacking gimmick, calls upon a special agent, code name Bell Bottom aka Akshay Kumar.
Akshay Kumar as Anshul, is driven by personal loss, hatches a plan to re-capture the plane and land it safely in India without any blood-shed and he manages to do so, also revealing moles in Indian Diplomacy and overseas as well, who are responsible for such hijacking.
Vaani Kapoor, who plays the role of Akshay Kumar’s wife, has a small and impactful role. She adds much needed charm and romance, and a sudden twist, which will leave audience in awe!
Huma Qureshi is sublime as special agent, but her character is twisted and full of surprises. Lara Dutta as Indira Gandhi, nails her role like it was meant for me, she is nuanced and skilled in her presidential avatar!
Despite mounting odds, Pooja Films has managed to put up a movie which is worthwhile, is commendable. Background score and songs, is worthy of praise.
'Bell Bottom's scale is massive that it deserves a big-screen, it is must watch, especially after Bhuj – The Pride Of Nation debacle! Finally, for this massive release, a four stars to is a definite!
