As Taliban swept into Afghanistan’s capital on Sunday, pictures and videos of people fleeing for their lives are coming out on social media. Expressing concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, Bollywood celebrities like Anushka Sharma, Kangana Ranaut, Sonu Sood, Swara Bhasker, Rhea Chakraborty, Shekhar Kapur among others expressed their solidarity with the war-ravaged country and its citizens.
On Monday, the restlessness of Afghan citizens fleeing the country was seen at Kabul airport. People were seen climbing on top of military planes and hundreds of people were seen running with military planes.
Musician Armaan Malik took to Twitter to express his sadness for the people of Afghanistan. "It’s sad to see all that’s happening in #Afghanistan at the moment. My prayers and thoughts are with their people (sic)," he wrote.
Sonu Sood tweeted saying, "Afghanistan Stay Strong Whole world is praying for you (sic)."
Rhea Chakraborty took to Instagram stories to urge global leaders to stand up for women being sold in Afghanistan. She wrote, “While women around the globe fight for pay parity, women in Afghanistan are being sold - They have become the pay. Heartbroken to see the condition of women and minorities in Afghanistan. Urge the global leaders to stand up for this! #smashthepatriachy. Women are human too (sic).”
Kabir Khan, who made his directorial debut with Kabul Express, has always had a special connection with Afghanistan. In fact, he was dissuaded by many people not to make the film, but the director felt that if he let it go, he would have played a part in stopping the progress of a nation that was inching its way to normalcy. Now, as Kabul has fallen to the Taliban, he took Instagram to share a series of striking pictures from there with a broken heart emoji.
Anurag Kashyap shared a social media appeal from Sahraa Karimi, an Afghan filmmaker, who is the first female chairperson of the Afghan Film Organisation. Her letter talked about the atrocities faced by the Afghans, and Kabul's tragic situation.

Ashraf Gani, the US-backed President, resigned and fled Afghanistan saying he wanted peace and avoid bloodshed as the Taliban took control of Kabul. According to reports, at least five people have been killed amid heavy gunfire at Kabul airport as thousands of Afghan citizens tried to board the last few flights leaving Afghanistan.
