This year, due to the Covid-19 restrictions for the tourism. The Kerala Tourism Minister P A Mohammed Riyas on Sunday said that this year the tourism department decided to celebrate the Onam virtually, in order to promote domestic tourism and bring together the world on digital platform in the view of Covid-19 travel restriction.
The minister said in the press, that the state government is revive domestic tourism, and collating them on an app so that they can be brought to everyone attention.
He said that this step is taken due to pandemic, which was started from March 2020. The tourism sector has suffered a loss of rs 33,000 crore and also the foreign exchange earning went down by rs 7,000 crore.
Even the number of Domestic tourism and foreign tourism both has come down due the pandemic situation, he added.
On the topic of virtual Onam celebrations, the minister said that this is a new initiative, Kerala’s arts, culture, food variates and tourist destinations all this would be showcased virtually with the help of digital media and other means.
