Indian wrestlers Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Deepak Punia have shined in Tokyo Olympics. While the former qualified for the finals and has guaranteed a medal for his country, the latter got knocked out in the semifinals. However, Deepak has a chance to claim the bronze medal now.
In the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling, Ravi Kumar showed his dominance right from the first game. In the round of 16, he got an easy victory with technical superiority against Columbia’s Oscar Eduardo Tigreros Urbano with a score of 13-2. In the quarterfinals, he once again won through technical superiority against Bulgaria’s Georgi Valentinov Vangelov with a score of 14-4.
In the semifinals, he was trailing against Kazakstan’s Nurislam Sanayev with a score of 2-9. However, he came back strong in the last 20 seconds and changed the course of the game. He won it through victory by fall method with a score of 7-9. He will play the final tomorrow.
On the flip side, Deepak Punia started off his campaign in style by winning against China’s Zushen Lin with a score of 6-3. He continued the streak in the quarterfinals as well and won the match against Nigeria’s Ekerekeme Agiomor by technical superiority with a score of 12-1.
However, he was beaten by America’s David Morris Taylor by technical superiority with a score of 10-0. He will compete for the bronze medal tomorrow.
