Veteran Multilingual Actress Abhinaya Sharade Jayanthi was 76 and passed away at her residence in Bengaluru on Monday morning. She died due to age related ailments.

Mourning the Actress, Telugu screenwriter Gopi Mohan tweeted: "Veteran heroine Jayanthi (76) garu, known as #AbhinayaSharadhe passed away due to health issues. She acted in more than 500 films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Maa Intilona Mahalakshmi Neeve, Anuraga Devatha Neeve are famous songs of Jayanthi garu #OmShanti."

Born as Kamala Kumari in Ballari on January 6, 1945, she was groomed by her mother Santanalakshmi to become a classic dancer from a very young age, for which she shifted to Chennai and then Madras. But it was movies that became her calling.

As a student in dance school, the teenage girl acted in small roles with other girls, including Tamil Veteran Actor Manorama who was once her batchmate. Then spotted by filmmaker Y.R. Swamy, she debuted in kannada with the screen name that was given to her by Y.R. Swamy - Jayanthi. Jenu Goodu was her first debut film and since then she never looked back.

She has acted in more than 500 films and in 5 languages - Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. While her glamour life was going good she also spoke about how stardom did not come easy to her, often being called 'overweight' and her personal life was also turbulent. She got married to filmmaker Peketi Shivaram but soon separated. She also suffered from asthma for over 35 years and had serious bouts of illness in 2018 and earlier this year.

Jayanthi co-starred with legendary actors like Gemini Ganeshan, M G Ramachandran, Muthuraman and Jaishankar for films such as Padagoti, Mugaraasi, Kanna Nalama, Punnagai, Velli Vizha and Iru Kodugal.

Lal Lal Bangla and Tumse Achha Kaun Hai were some of her films in Bollywood.

Jayanthi also delivered several Telugu blockbusters such as Jagadeka Veeruni Katha, Kula Gauravam and Kondaveeti Simham with late Telugu actor N T Rama Rao, who later became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Jayanthi won Karnataka State Film Awards seven times.
