There were three significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty and Paresh Rawal starrer Hera Pheri, Taapsee Pannu and Akshay Kumar starrer Naam Shabana and Rahul Bose starrer Poorna. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
Hera Pheri (2000)
Touted as one of best comedy films of all time, Hera Pheri changed the life of Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty and especially Paresh Rawal. The Priyadarshan directed comedy received an overwhelming response from the paying audience thanks to its nut-cracking jokes, perfect comic timings and admiring performances which brought down the house. Result – Hera Pheri started off to slow pace but picked up later and turned into “Super-Hit” status at the box office.
Naam Shabana (2017)
After the huge success of the character, Shabana, from the blockbuster, Baby, Neeraj Pandey decided to make a film on it, starring Taapsee Pannu. The trailer of Naam Shabana was good and so was the excitement to see the film. The film opened well, thanks to the presence of Akshay Kumar in special appearance but Naam Shabana could not sustain well due to poor screenplay and wafer-thin plot. The action-thriller settled for a “Break-Even” status at the box office.
Probably, you might never heard about the film Poorna but I would highly recommend it. Poorna tells the true story of Poorna Malavath, who becomes the youngest girl to scale Mount Everest. Brilliantly directed by Rahul Bose, Poorna had a powerful screenplay and an engaging performance. Unfortunately, the movie suffered from a lack of promotion and tumbled at the box office.
