There were two significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Kay Kay Menon and Deepak Dobriyal starrer Gulal and Anushka Sharma starrer NH 10. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
Anurag Kashyap has come a long way in building his career in Bollywood right from the mystery thriller Last Train To Mahakali (1999) till directing the web-series drama Sacred Games and we are lucky to have witnessed his magic on silver screen. Anurag Kashyap forayed into the world of political drama called Gulal after directing the modern version of Sarat Chattopadhya’s novel Devdas in the same year. The high-octane flick starred Kay Kay Menon who brilliantly portrayed the role of Rajputana leader craving for power. The movie received favorable reviews but was a commercial failure at the box office.
Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015)
Welcome to the world of badlands which shows the sad reality, the struggle of a visitor asking for help, the obscure status of women in the village and selfish police officers who barely do their duty. NH 10 was was bloody, blunt and gruesome which is very much required in the plot. Hats off to Navdeep Singh for creating the tension with what-will- happen-next era, after the gripping mystery-thriller, Manorama Six Feet Under. The length of the film is 115 mins and would not let you blink-your-eyes for a second. Singh also does well in directing the film with raw and rustic background of North India along with nice background score which gels well with the film.
Anushka Sharma steals the show with her fiery dialogues and solid performance. She gets into the character with ease. Watch for her when she patiently waits for gang leader struggling to getup on his feet. NH 10 started slow at the box office but picked later due to favorable word-of-mouth reviews and became a sleeper “Hit” of the year, collecting a handsome Rs 31 crores against a budget of Rs 18 crores.
