Vicky Kaushal finally got his due as an actor when his latest flick URI-The Surgical Strike has not only impressed the critics but has won the heart of the audience worldwide. The brilliant actor has kept the josh alive as he has signed another patriotic film which will be a biopic drama on the freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh and will be directed by none other than the talented Shoojit Sircar.
Vicky Kaushal started the year 2019 with a bang. Inspite of clashing with Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna starrer, The Accidental Prime Minister, URI is still minting money and has just completed 50 days at the ticket window. The actor had a great 2018 with his outstanding performance in Sanju and Manmarziyaan and is all set to play freedom fighter, Sardar Udham Singh, in Shoojit Sircar‘s next. For our viwers, Udham Singh assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in British India in 1940, to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Director of films like Piku, October and Vicky Donor, Shoojit Sircar says, ” If you look at Vicky’s track record, he is taking brave steps and making some really fabulous choices. I wanted an actor who is ready to give his heart and soul to the film. Plus, he is a Punjabi boy and my film is a story of a Punjabi man. So, in many ways, he turned to be the obvious choice.”
When questioned Vicky Kaushal about his feeling being signed by Shoojit Sircar, the talented actor mentions ” It’s a surreal feeling because it’s like a dream come true as I am finally getting to work with him. I have always been a big admirer of how Shoojit sir looks at his stories. The way he is looking at the character (Udham Singh) and the world is extraordinary as well as beautiful. Plus, it’s also a big honour for me that finally, I am going to be directed by him. Honestly, that’s something that will take time to sink in”
The untitled film is likely to go on floors from next month onward and will release sometime in 2020.
