The Hollywood film Alita Battle Angel did better than the Nargis Fakhir and Sachin Joshi starrer Amavas and Farhan Akhtar and Annu Kapoor starrer The Fakir Of Venice in the first weekend at the box office.
Alita The Battle Angel
From the maker of films like The Terminator, The Abyss, Titanic and Avatar, James Cameron collaborated with Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Spy Kids) for Alita Battle Angle. Due to the good reviews, Alita The Battle Angel collected a good Rs 2.10 crores from its English, Hindi, Tamil & Telugu versions on its first day. There was a significant growth on second day with Rs 3.15 crores followed by Rs 3.75 crores on Sunday, bringing the overall collections to Rs 9 crores.
Directed by Bhushan Patel who made 1920: Evil Returns, Ragini MMS 2 and Alone, Amavas is yet another horror flick, starring Nargis Fakhri and Sachin Joshi. The film had no star value and the trailer itself was poor. The songs were a letdown and so were the reviews which made Amavas open to just Rs 75 lakhs on its first day at the box office, while the second day collections were a mere Rs 85 lakhs. There was hardly any growth on Sunday with Rs 90 lakhs, bringing the overall collections to Rs 2.50 crores.
The Fakir Of Venice
The other film was a long delayed project, The Fakir Of Venice, which was supposed to release in 2009. The comedy drama, starring Farhan Akhtar and Annu Kapoor finally the release date but opened to lackluster reviews all around. The film was a washout from the first show itself and will not able to make any impact at the box office, collecting just Rs 20 lakhs. The second day collections were just Rs 25 lakhs while Snday collections ended on Rs 30 lakhs, bringing the total collections to Rs 70 lakhs.
As both Amavas and The Fakir Of Venice have under-performed at the box office, all eyes are set on URI-The Surgical Strike and Manikarnika-The Queen of Jhansi.
