There were four significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Govinda starrer Raja Babu, Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla starrer Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Aamir Khan starrer Dhobi Ghat and Konkona Sen Sharma starrer Page 3. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
Raja Babu (1994)
Believe it or not, audience were dying to see the hit jodi of Govinda and David Dhawan who have given innumerable hits like Coolie No.1, Saajan Chale Sasural, Hero No. 1 etc together. This along with adequate support from Kader Khan and Karisma Kapoor made the films memorable with hilarious comic scenes and full entertainment. Raja Babu was yet another “Super-Hit” film which had high dose of comedy, hit music and masala entertainment which was loved by the audience.
Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000)
Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani had the right ingredients – Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza coming together after Raju Ban Gaya Gentlemen and Yes Boss. Icing on the cake was the amazing music by Jatin-Lalit. Unfortunately, the movie tanked at the box office.
Page 3 (2005)
The second film by Madhur Bhandarkar after the success of Chandni Bar, Page 3 exposed the hypocrisy and the superficial lives of celebrities and high-society people. It was one most hard-hitting ever made in Bollywood. This coupled with brilliant performance by Konkona Sen Sharma made Page 3, one of the best movies to ever come out on silver screen.
Dhobi Ghat (2011)
Directed by Kiran Rao, who forayed into her first feature film, Dhobi Ghat had multiple stories woven together into a single piece. Being an art film, Dhobi Ghat still did well at the box office, thanks to the presence of Aamir Khan. Made on a shoe-string budget, Dhobi Ghat turned out to be a profitable venture for its makers.
