Born and brought up in Gurgaon, Haryana, Rajkummar Rao graduated from the University Of Delhi. He studied acting from Film and Television Institute Of India and then came to Mumbai to pursue his dream. From the very first film, he started with an experimental role in Ekta Kapoor’s Love, Sex And Dokha in 2010. But it was the year 2013 which changed the life of Rajkummar Rao when he tasted success with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che at the box office. Later that year, Rajkummar Rao stunned everyone when he played the role of Shahid Azmi in the critically acclaimed biographical drama Shahid (2013), directed by Hansal Mehta. Rajkummar won his National Film Award for Best Actor and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor.

2016 was another year for Rajkummar Rao where he went on to prove that he can go to extent to portray his characters. While he was impressive as a curious journalist in the Hansal Mehta’s hard-hitting drama, Aligarh, Rajkummar survived on a diet of just black coffee and carrot to get into the skin of character of a call center employee who gets trapped in his apartment room without food, water and electricity in Vikramaditya Motwane’s critical acclaimed, Trapped.

Rajkummar Rao got his first commercial successes with Ashwani Iyer’s quirky comedy, Bareily Ki Barfi in 2017 and got his appreciation from the wider audience as Pritam Vidrohi. This was followed by almost-close-to-the-Oscar-race Newton, a satirical drama on the election voting in the Naxal-hit areas in India. The film was a grand success both commercially and critically.
