Today we saw the big clash between Vicky Kaushal starrer URI-The Surgical Strike and Anupam Kher starrer The Accidental Prime Minister at the box office. Let us see which film did well in the morning show.
URI – The Surgical Strike
While 2018 saw the hard-hitting patriotic drama, Parmanu-The Story Of Pokhran starring John Abraham, which opened to a decent response but due to strong word of mouth reviews, it went on to collect Rs 66 crores(approximately). URI – The Surgical Strike has a fantastic trailer with punching dialogues and solid promotion that worked in its favor. The war-drama has received positive response from the critics and that reflected in the morning shows which opened to a healthy 20-25%. If the content of the war-drama is good, it will be an icing on the cake for the film and can do good business on Saturday and Sunday. The film is based on the 2016 Indian Army’s surgical strikes on Pakistan Administered Kashmir as a retaliation for the URI attack.
The Accidental Prime Minister
The much controversial and bold subject, The Accidental Prime Minister, based on the life of stars Manmohan Singh, the economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. The reviews have been decent to average but the controversial did well with 15-20% in the morning shows. The political drama, based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru, embarked on a good start considering low star power.
Both URI-The Surgical Strike and The Accidental Prime Minister should benefit from partial holiday owing to the Sankranti / Pongal festival in few parts of India.
