Kedarnath became Sara Ali Khan’s big Bollywood break but the struggle which Abhishek Kapoor went through is unknown. Read on…
Kedarnath directed by Abhishek Kapoor saw the day of the light after a lot many struggles. Initially, the culpable producers and followed by the objections raised by the religion groups, the film saw a lot of backlash but finally managed a nationwide release and went on to emerge as a HIT film despite the controversies. The romantic drama film was meant to be Sara Ali Khan‘s debut but it wasn’t that easy, says the director.
Abhishek had to pull it all together to make it Sara’s debut as there were several reports which read that Simmba is going to be her big debut film opposite Ranveer Singh and if sources are to be believed, it was also Sara’s wish.
Kapoor revealed that he along with producer Ronnie Screwvala had to fight it out before the court so as to ensure that Kedarnath released before Simmba and even producer-director Rohit Shetty was called to the court to settle the matter.
Kapoor said, “It is true. I was paid my full free upfront when I started this film. When the s*** hit the ceiling, I could’ve just walked away with my remuneration with not a care in the world. But I chose to not to abandon the project. I pulled it out of the crisis. And then when Simmba instead of Kedaranath was being called out as Sara’s debut release I fought a battle with Sara in court and then pulled up the release of Kedarnath ahead of schedule in December, which was logistically a crazy thing to do.”
Now that Simmba is also a declared hit, we feel Sara got the best of both the worlds and Abhishek must also be a content director now.
