Daughter of badminton player, Prakash Padukone, Deepika Padukone started her film career in Bollywood with big budgeted Shah Rukh Khan starrer Om Shaanti Om in 2007, which was directed by Farah Khan. The story of reincarnation was a runaway hit and established career of Deepika into the word of Hindi Film industry. Deepika bagged a role in Siddharth Anand’s directed Bachna Ee Haseeno which was a commercial success but Deepika was criticized for her wooden-expression through out the film. Deepika Padukone faced another backlash when the big budget Chandni Chowk To China, starring Akshay Kumar, failed miserably at the box office. The gorgeous actress heaved a sigh of relief when Imtiaz Ali directed Love, Aaj Kal became the highest grossing film of 2009.
From 2010 till 2011, Deepika Padukone faced the worst phase of her life when her films like Karthik Calling Karthik, Lafange Parindey, Khelein Hum Je Jaan Se, Aarakshan and Desi Boyz disappointed at the box office. Her only saving grace was HouseFull which was a hit but heavily criticized for poor performances. Her big break came when she set the screen on fire as Meera in Cocktail. The movie did commercially well and she was praised for her performance. She continued to deliver box office hits like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Race 2, Chennai Express and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Deepika also experimented in a art house cinema Finding Fanny and was appreciated for her lovely performance. The same year, Deepika attempted the motion-animation Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan opposite Rajinikanth which turned out to be a disaster at the box office. However, she found commercial success in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year.
2015 was the year of Deepika Padukone as she transformed herself into a complete actress. She impressed each and everyone playing the role of simple Bengali girl in Shoojit Sircar’s critically and commercially acclaimed Piku. After this, she proved that she can play emotional role with ease in Imtiaz Ali’s critically acclaimed Tamaasha. But her major turning point was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani released during the Christmas and changed the game for Deepika. She played the role of highly-intensed Mastani with aplomb and won several awards during that year. Though her first Hollywood film xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017), starring Vin Diesel, did not find success at the box office, Deepika Padukone impressed her fans with stunts in the action film.
Deepika Padukone surprised the world with her charming, bubbly and yet fearless character of Rani Padmani in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial film Padmaavat. Padmaavat became the first film of Deepika Padukone to touch the milestone of Rs 300 crores and cement her status at the box office.
