There were three significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Emraan Hashmi, Tanushree Dutta and Sonu Sood starrer Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Kajol starrer We Are Family and Sonakshi Sinha and Anurag Kashyap starrer Akira. Let us check how these films fared at the box office
Aashiq Banaya Aapne
Aashiq Banaya Aapne was released when Emraan Hashmi was at the peak of his career. His movies were doing good at the box office and thanks to his collaboration with Himesh Reshmaiya, he had a dedicated fan following. Unfortunately, Aashiq Banaya Aapne, released in September 2005 had chart bursting songs but with poor screenplay and bad acting. The movie turned out to be “Average” at the box office.
We Are Family
A remake of Hollywood hit film, Stepmom, We Are Family was directed by Siddharth Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar. We Are Family received much fan fare in 2010 before the movie was released thanks to the star cast, big budget, high production values and Dharma Productions’s tag name. Though the film received good reviews for performances by the star cast, the family drama opened to average response across the country and sank at the box office.
Akira, released in 2016, was directed by A.R.Murugadoss who delivered blockbusters like Ghajni and Holiday. The trailer of Akira looked good with some cool fighting scenes by Sonakshi Sinha and Anurag Kashyap playing the role of a corrupted cop. The women-centric opened to good response and sustained well at the box office though it was just a break-even carrying a budget of Rs 30 crores.
