Yesterday we saw the clash of three smaller films at the box office – Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao starrer Fanney Khan, Irrfan Khan starrer Karwaan and Rishi Kapoor, Tapsee Pannu starrer Mulk, which opened to dismal responses on the first day
The biggest release among three is Fanney Khan with huge budget, popular star cast and solid promotion. However, the reviews are mixed or below average from the paying audience and critics. Fanney Khan opened to 10% occupancy in the morning show but did not do well at the later part of the day. As per early estimates, Fanney Khan opened to Rs 2-3 crores. Fanney Khan is made on a budget of Rs 35 crores all inclusive of prints and advertising cost(Production Cost: 25 Crores & Prints & Advertising Cost: 10 Crores)
Irrfan Khan starrer Karwaan opened to 10-15% in the early shows but did not pickup towards evening and night shows inspite of receiving solid reviews. As per early trade estimates, Karwaan has earned Rs 1 crores which is below Irrfan Khan’s previous films – Piku, Hindi Medium, Qarib Qarib Single and Blackmail
The third release of this Friday, Mulk, has received the best reviews among the three films. The Rishi Kapoor and Tapsee Pannu starrer opened to 10-15% occupancy in the morning shows but the business did not pick up towards the end of the day. Mulk has earned some where between Rs 2-3 crores. The good news is that budget of Mulk is less as it made on a budget of Rs 18 Crores all inclusive of prints and advertising cost (Production Cost: 12 Crores, Prints & Advertising Cost: 6 Crores)
The Tom Cruise Cruise starrer Mission Impossible : FallOut will continue to do well in its second week and should provide tough competition to these films.
