Box Office: Here’s Why Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man Might Not Enter The 100 Crore Club!

Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man has been released and has been doing well in the cinemas.

The Bollywood film Pad Man has hit the theatres and is currently in its second week of release. The Akshay Kumar starrer had created a lot of buzz before its release. And hence its business in the first week was very good.

The film was able to collect around Rs 62.87 crore in its first week of release. But unfortunately it seems like Pad Man will not able to enter the 100 crore club. Akki is one of the biggest stars of B-town and looking at his past few films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Rustom and Airlift, this film was also expected to rake good numbers at the box-office.

But this does not seem to be possible. It is firstly due to the off-beat subject matter of the film. People are still not very comfortable talking about menstrual hygiene in open. That’s why when the film did good in the metro cities, it was not able to attract viewers in single screens of the mass dominated areas.

The other reason is the release of other B-town films like Padmaavat and Aiyaary. While Deepika Padukone’s film was released two weeks earlier to Pad Man, it started gaining pace after its first week. That’s why when Akki’s film released, Padmaavat was still attracting many of the viewers. Also, Sidharth Malhotra’s Aiyaary released just a week after Pad Man. And thus ate a part of its business. Still Pad Man is expected to reach a nett total of Rs 75-80 crore.

Talking about the film, Pad Man is a comedy-drama based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham. It stars Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. Produced by Twinkle Khanna, the film touches upon the sensitive subject of menstrual hygiene.
