It is actually very unhealthy to walk barefoot in a flight, due to several reasons.
People want comfort, no matter where they are. And the same expectation is there when they are on a flight, travelling from one place to another. Regular fliers are very well familiar with several changes that one’s body experiences while they are on-board at a high altitude.
It is mainly due to the immense pressure. The ears pop, one’s ability to taste changes and also one can find it difficult to put the shoes back on after the travel. But the best solution for the last problem is to not take off the shoes at all while being in the flight.
And we are not saying this because of the compression. But it is more because of your own hygiene and health. A veteran flight attendant, Linda Ferguson told Reader’s Digest, “We see people walking from their seats into the bathrooms all the time barefoot and we cringe because those floors are full of germs.”
She also warns about the other problems saying, “Never walk barefoot into the bathroom or the gallery area because sometimes we drop glasses and there could be sharp glass there too.”
Let us tell you all that the flights might not be as clean as they appear to be. Especially the cabins, who are only spot-cleaned when necessary. Also, the gallery, where people love to roam around barefoot, is an area full of germs. When things like foods, beverages, or even stomach juice is spilled in that area, it not always cleaned with a disinfectant. Usually, just the stains are removed, and it gives space for the germs to grow.
So, next time when you think of taking off your shoes on a flight, we would advise you to think twice!
