The film shows the reality of a domestic abuse life. A husband who keeps beating his wife, not because he is forced into it but because he likes. It makes him feel superior, like the MAN of the house. And a Wife who keeps believing he will change someday. The only things she keeps holding onto are hope and desperation.
On these points Alia Bhatt and Vijay Varma's acting is on point. As the characters are beautifully crafted and their world is toxic but in the end its theirs. Alia Bhatt as always shows us her phenomenal ability of changing emotions in a second. Very few actors in bollywood have the ability to register moods without using words.
Vijay Varma is so outstanding in his role, which makes us hate the character but love the actor. He has delivered some of the best performances on the screen with his vibrant filmography.
And Shefali Shah is just another powerful act in the film. She has once again shown us her powerful acting. She takes over the character and comes out to us with its full potential and for that she deserves an applause.
The overall acting of the actors is mindblowingly awesome but the story does not do justice to them. As post interval, in a bid to lighten the topic of domestic abuse the film starts taking a turn to black comedy and the revenge added into it just does nothing but turn it down even more. The comic touches feel forced, some of the sequences become annoying because of the film showing the awareness of
the characters does not match it.
The end is satisfying to say the least. With her maiden production Alia Bhatt has raised the bar with her performance and her meaning behind the movie.
