We are fortunate to see the magic of cinema spelled by Ranbir Singh and Ranveer Singh as they set the silver screen on fire with their unmatchable acting skills. Let us check out which actor holds the highest numbers of hits when it comes to deliver at the box office.
Ranbir Kapoor, belonging to Kapoor khandaan and with parents – Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, always had advantage of being A star kid but at the same time dealing with pressure to match up to their acting levels. Ranbir Kapoor started off with a box office disaster Saawariyan (2007), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. His second film Bachna Ee Hasino(2008) was yet another disappointment, though it was an average fair at the box office.
Ranbir Kapoor’s success came with coming-of-age drama in Ayan Mukherjee’s Wake Up Sid (2009). This was followed another hit Ajeeb Prem Ki Gajab Kahaani (2009). Though Rocket Singh : Salesman Of The Year (2009) flopped, Ranbir’s performance was much appreciated. 2010 started off well with multi-starrer Rajneeti which became a Grand success. Later that year, Ranbir worked with Priyanka Chopra on average grossing flick Anjana Anjaani. Ranbir Kapoor’s memorable performance came from Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar which was fairly successful at the box office. Ranbir Kapoor’s winning streak continued with super-successful Barfi in 2012 and mega-hit Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013. Success was interrupted when Besharam released at the box office same year which made Ranbir Kapoor into butt of jokes. His struggle continued with disastrous Roy and probably the most unsuccessful film of his life, Bombay Velvet. He bounced back with Tamasha in the same year. Though he was praised for his mind blowing performance, Tamasha was a moderate success at the box office. Ranbir Kapoor collaborated with Karan Johar for the first time with love triangle in Ae Dil Hain Mushkil (2016). Despite facing Ajay Devgan’s Shivaay, Ae Dil Hain Mushkil did very well at the box office.
Ranbir Kapoor saw another big letdown in terms of box office numbers with big budgeted Jagga Jasoos. The movie was a complete failure at the box office. However, Ranbir gave the best performance of his life with Sanju this year. Not only Sanju became the third highest grossing film in the history of Bollywood after Bahubali 2 and Dangal, it also earned Ranbir Kapoor a global recognition for his powerful performance.
Ranveer Singh ventured into Bollywood with Maneesh Sharna’s Band Bajaa Baraat along with Anushka Sharma. The comedy drama went beyond trade expectation and was the sleeper hit of 2010. Ranveer Singh once again collaborated with Maneesh Sharma in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl which was yet another commercial success in 2011. 2013 saw Ranveer Singh as method actor when he impressed everyone in Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootere along with Sonakshi Sinha. Though, the film was an average grosser, it earned critical acclaim.
Ranveer Singh hit the bull’s eye with his first 100 crores film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Ras leela: Ram Leela.. He continued his winning streak with Ali Abbas Zafar’s Gunday along with Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in 2014. However, he met with box office dud in form of Shaad Ali directed Kill Dill in the same year.
Ranveer Singh found moderate success in Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015 but it was Bajirao Mastani released the same year during December, which turned the table for him. Despite facing the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dilwale, Bajirao Mastani went to become one of biggest hit of career and earning him his first Filmfare award as Best Actor. Singh saw another disappointment at the box office from Befikre which was heavily criticized for its lame story. 2018 was the best year of Ranveer’s career. The highly-energetic actor proved his mettle playing the role of Allauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama Padmaavat. Padmaavat became his highest grossing film minting a staggering Rs 300 crores, making Ranvir a household name.
