There were four significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Salman Khan Kareena Kapoor starrer Bodyguard, Manisha Koirala, Madhuri Dixit, Rekha, Mahima Chaudhary, Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgan and Jackie Shroff starrer Lajja , Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Mohanlal starrer Ramgopal Gopal Varma Ki Aag and Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer Joker. Let us check how these films fared at the box office
A remake of Malayalam film of same name, Bodyguard was Salman Khan’s EID release where he scored the hatrick to enter the 100 crore film after Dabanng and Ready. Also starring Kareena Kapoor, Bodyguard was released in 2011 and met with poor reviews by the critics but the fans of Salman Khan were in no mood to listen. The film opened to fabulous response across India and became an instant blockbuster.
From the director of Ghayal, Damini, Andaz Apna Apna and Ghatak, Raj Kumar Santoshi presented a multiple stories of four women in different parts of India. The film garnered some of the best reviews praising the direction and performances by the star cast. Unfortunately, stellar reviews did not transform into good box office numbers and Lajja was declared “FLOP” at the box office.
Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag
Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, Aag, was probably the worst remake ever made in the history of Indian cinema. It was an insult to the cult classic Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay. It was a washout at the box office. The lesser written about the film, the better for us.
Things didn’t go well between Shirish Kunder, who directed the film, and Akshay Kumar during the shooting of Joker and the clash resulted in a messed up film which was a non-starter at the box office. Also starring Sonakshi Sinha, Joker turned out to be “DISASTER” at the box office.
