Yesterday, the period crime thriller Raid was released in the theatres. And it has received a decent collection on its opening day. The film stars Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’cruz in the lead roles.
The film was able to collect around Rs 9.75 crore on its first day. And it is a good enough business looking at the first day box-office reports of Ajay Devgn’s other films. The film is based on the state of Uttar Pradesh. Hence, the collections were expected to be better there. But the film could just manage an overall business on Rs 1 crore in the state of UP, which could have been better.
Raid’s first day business is somewhat similar to how Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man performed on its first day. Although Pad Man had done a little better in cities like Mumbai, Pune and the Southern India. But Raid has made up for it by performing better in the state of UP and Gujarat.
This film ranks on the ninth position in the list of highest first day grossers of Ajay Devgn. Singham Returns stands at the top with a whopping business of Rs 31.68 crore on day one. It is followed by Golmaal Again (Rs 30.1 crore) and Bol Bachchan (Rs 11.43 crore).
Talking about the film, Raid has been inspired from the real life I-T raids that were conducted by the Indian Revenue Services back in the 1980s. It has been written by Ritesh Shah along with Raj Kumar Gupta helming the project. The film also stars Saanand Verma and Saurabh Shukla.
