According to Rani Mukerji, people who do not know acting are also talking about pay parity!
It is very well known to everyone that how gender discrimination takes place in the Bollywood film industry. It is always the hero who is kept at preference, the heroine is decided accordingly. Also, the kind of roles and the screen presence that the actresses get are not as good as compared to the actors. And eventually, they are not paid as much as the actors do. Many B-town actresses like Priyanka Chopra and Sonam Kapoor have expressed their displeasure on this pay disparity. But it seems like the actress Rani Mukerji has a different opinion on the same.
When she was asked by Mid Day about her opinions on the actresses getting paid less than the actors, she said that it does not matter to her. The Mardaani actress said, “That’s not what drove me to work. I worked to be happy. My parents took care of my finances.”
She even took a dig indirectly at people who have been bringing up this issue. Without taking names, Rani said, “Nowadays, a lot of people who don’t know how to act are also talking of pay parity. It’s important to hone your skills and become good at what you do, money will follow.”
She also added on further saying, “Actors make money from endorsements or cutting ribbons. Money can come from anywhere.”
Well, let’s see if the rest of the B-town beauties agree with Rani’s opinion! But for a change this pay disparity ritual has been recently broken with the film Padmaavat. The lead actress of the film Deepika Padukone was paid more than her co-actors Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
Talking about the professional front of the actress, Rani Mukerji is making a comeback with the upcoming film Hichki. It is slated to release on March 23, this year.
