Yes, we have all seen La La Land and been totally floored by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. But there has also been an invisible contribution from Ryan’s partner, Eva Mendes, to the film, which was hitherto unknown. Eva has contributed an important dialogue in the film uttered by Ryan’s character.
As Ryan explained to Entertainment Tonight, ” ‘LA worships everything and values nothing.’ That was something my lady said to me one day and I thought it was so funny I asked her if I could put it in the movie. She was kidding, but it’s a funny thing to say… I loved when she said it, because it’s funny enough to have some truth to it, you know? But it’s obviously a joke, so it just seemed appropriate for the movie.”
The film, which dominated the awards season, earning a total of 11 Golden Globe nominations, is set in California. Based on the dreamy Hollywood, it shows a love story between a struggling jazz singer and a struggling actress, essayed by Ryan and Emma respectively.
During his Golden Globes speech after he won the Best Actor award, Ryan thanked Eva for her solidarity and support, which helped him be a part of the film.
“I would like to try to thank one person properly. While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” he told the gathering.
Further accrediting her for her contribution, Ryan said, “If she hadn’t have taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So sweetheart, thank you.”
Guess sometimes love can be just as amazing and magical as they show in the movies, eh Ryan?
