Bollywood industry is rejoicing and it is accompanied by exhibitors and distributors thanks to the wrestling drama “Dangal” which was able to put smile on their face. Based on the true story of Haryanvi wrestler, Mahavir Singh Phogat, who helped his daughter, Geeta Phogat, achieve a gold at the Common Wealth Games 2010, “Dangal” is on the verge of breaking the 200 crore barrier.
The Aamir Khan starrer “Dangal” had a stupendous opening with Rs 29.28 crores. The reviews were glowing which helepd the business escalate to Rs 34.82 crores on Saturday. Thanks to the Christmas celebration on Sunday, business was at its peak with Rs 42.41 crores. “Dangal” passed the acid test by performing exceedingly well on Monday with Rs 25.69 crores. The drop on Tuesday was reasonable as compared to Monday bringing Rs 23.09 crores where Wednesday was rock-steady with Rs 21.20 crores summing the total to Rs 176.98 crores.
Today, the morning show occupancy was same as Wednesday to around 40% range. The wrestling drama is keeping its head high above the heel in places like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and UP due to the tax-free status. Since the word of mouth is extremely positive, the single screen theaters have also started performing with no demonetization effect. The business is supposed to escalate by evening and night shows as the New Year celebration is closing which could end for collection between Rs 18-20 crores and total of Rs 194.98 – 196.98 crores.
“Dangal” has already recovered its budget of Rs 75 crores ( Production Cost – Rs 60 crores + Printing & Advertising – Rs 15 crores)
