The “Kabali” wave was very much evident even before the movie released and with cinemas opening the film early morning at 1 A.M in some theaters coupled with huge media hype, the Rajnikanth starrer broke the record for the Highest Opening Day Grosser Film of Indian Cinema.
Salman Khan’s “Sultan” minted Rs 36.5 crores on its first day but “Kabali” went ahead and earned a jaw-dropping Rs 48 crores from multiple languages released across India. Despite mixed reviews, the Rajnikanth mania gripped the nation and ensured an outstanding opening at the box office catapulting his status at the box office king. Point to be noted here is that “Kabali” was released in different languages which also helped in escalating the business.
In Tamil Nadu, “Kabali” broke Ajith Kumar’s “Vedhalam”, which had earned around Rs 15 crore, by minting Rs 21.5 crores on its first day itself. The film was already tax-exempted in the state which helped in boosting the collections further.
